She is a giant girl crush of mine. He was always so cute and sweet and full of dimples, but seeing someone be able to sing makes them utterly irresistible. It is a lifelong wish to be able to belt out some beautiful noise but since I was blessed with a singing voice that makes chickens want to cry, I will settle for watching these two talented fools.

If my landlord would only let us...even though they are expensive I think I would have NO CHOICE but to splurge on these beautiful hot pink numbers from Modern Dwell to hang by our front door! I would want to shout my address in large type in this crazy color - I love it. My husband...probably not so much but a girl can dream....sigh. They would be brilliant in a little girls room too - just the right touch of girl crazy fun and modern clean lines.

So now I know how our family is going to bring in that extra money - put little Saxon to work! If Dutch designer Lucas Maassen of Furniture Factory can put his three sons to work painting the furniture that he makes and sells, so can we! While child labor is not my thing (according to Dutch laws, the kids can work three hours a week and make 1 Euro for every piece they create) it IS an interesting concept, the whole family affair. Because they only have so much time, the kids paint fast and furious and so a distinct fit-as-much-in-as-you-can style evolved. While I dig the dreamy unfinishedness of the products, I think I'll stick to doing my own DIYs.

I am a little obsessed with hairdo tutorial videos. Those and cat eye how to's...neither of which I can seem to master perfectly so it's a great thing that I am a lover of the whole undone look. Saw this tutorial over at apartment 34 and thought while it seems like pretty "duh" material, it helps to watch someone else do it. The fact that she is pretty sweet and made me laugh doesn't hurt either. I think it depends on your hair amount/type on whether it STAYS up there in that bun. I can get mine to be all cute and tall but after 20 min, it gets tired and starts making it's way down the back of my head...or leans over to one side like it's trying to escape.

These are friendship bracelets and then some. Since I am somewhat limited in my bracelet braiding skills (or more like entirely way too impatient) I am all for paying someone who has the skills. Anthropologie always has the most beautiful homegoods...right now I am lusting after their bath towels. We have nice solid colored towels from Pottery Barn that we got for our wedding but we must be rough on them because they are all starting to slowly fall apart and die. I would love to be able to ditch them all and buy all these beauties but because they are a little pricey I might have to sneak them in one at a time - especially those ikat ones - PERFECT for a beachy bathroom that needs an injection of style and fun. The mix of the ikat towels and the flowered pretties actually really appeals to me too. I used to think I wanted all the same color towels but these days that feels boring to me and I favor this eclectic mix of colors and patterns. Since I don't usually buy towels, I am a little out of the loop - what is the average price for good towels? Is it worth spending your money on?

Again, I am on the fence about the Toms...they are sooo comfortable and caaaan be cute but mostly I just think they are a goofy looking. That being said, my pair are pretty worn out as they make the best shoes to beat around in, in the summer time. BUT I just read in InStyle that they are coming out with a ballet flat version soon and I am sort of excited to see how this pans out - the little teaser they show online looks pretty sweet to me and comes in some fun shades and patterns. Tom's ballet flats - sounds good?

Richard Mosse

I recently saw these photos taken by Richard Mosse and was struck dumb by the contrast of such a loud and festive color and the subject matter - wartorn Congo. Mosse used Aerochrome infrared film for these photos of rebels during wartime and the results of bright color (well, at least me personally) get you drawn into the photos first for their apparent beauty and then for their shocking imagery and subject matter.

"This Aerochrome infrared film was developed by the US military in the 1940s to detect camouflage and to reveal part of the spectrum of light the human eye cannot see. But where this technology was invented to detect enemy positions in the underbrush, Mosse uses it to make us call into question pictures we thought we understood. These are the images we take for granted from Congo: the ruthless militia commander, the rape victim, an unwitting peasant. But in Mosse's pictures, Congo's photographic clichés are represented in a counterpoint of electric pink, teal blue and lavender. By representing the conflict with an invisible spectrum of infrared light, he pushes us to see this tragedy in new ways."

After watching this tutorial from Everything Fab I though FOR SURE I could perfect the sleek ballet bun that I have been coveting. While my attempts at this point have just resulted in a crazy explosion of knotted hair on my head (I am NOT talented in the hair-do department) a co-worker just recently proved to me how frickin easy it is. She walked in today with this perfect bun and I was like waaaaiiiiiiitttt a miiinnnnnuuute and sure enough it was an old cut up sock inside the hair ...which caused a whole mess of conversation around the office and resulted in a real life demonstration on my friend Brooke...it was seriously the easy looking thing ever. Have you tried it?

This line completely fascinates me...the fierce chunky bold style that still conveys a sweet feminine side has me drooling over these pieces. I'd love to own one of those insane statement necklaces from Dannijo with the chunks of turquoise and metal. And the Neha bag - the lavender one has me just staring at the computer screen with little hearts coming out of my eyes...it's so so beautiful. And if you can keep a secret - I am going to buy the little Zoe rose gold ring as a little Happy New Year to me present...it's rare to come across a simple band that is good quality, beautiful AND affordable. My budget and Madewell do NOT get along...it's like Target to me, I can go in meaning to get dishsoap and next thing I know I am at the register wondering how I spent 100 bucks. I just love the vibe of the store - somethings might be a liiiiiittle too preppy for me but I love the majority of it all, and I especially appreciate the sense of humor they have when approaching the pieces. Their Spring 2012 Lookbook already has me rationalizing how I can get back into the store without my bank account noticing. Since I would love to incorporate a little more "girly" into my life this year, that green dress/boots outfit and the pink number with the comfy cardigan/red flats are calling my name. And on a side note, I want the models messy sexy hair too please.

It's a fine line between allowing your kids (and all their crap) to have full access to your place without it looking like a trampled toy store. Plus I have a thing for disco balls in odd settings and wide open spaces. It's also a nice read as a mom to gain some insight into the brain of a successful working mom who is juggling full time work and full time mom duty. Over Christmas vacation (too short!) I went to visit a new favorite store in Newport Beach - LMNOP. Super small knitting supply store also stocked with all kinds of handmade goods, housewares, candles, jewelry...all kinds of fun and beautiful things you never knew you needed. They were having an amazing sale and I walked away with a new favorite necklace - this little leather pouch by Heyoka. It's slightly different from the one online but made of the same buttery soft leather and just the perfect size to store some little charms and talismans inside it. I am also a little obsessed with the Ghost Beads they make - see for yourself here.

I am obsessed with the blog Into The Gloss and probably check it like 5 times a day even though I KNOW there won't be a new one everytime. Something about peeking into people's bathroom and medicine cabinents appeals to the product junkie in me. Actually I don't BUY a ton of stuff, but I do like to know about it all. Although I did recently purchase this "beauty elixir" by Caudalie two days ago because of this blog and I think its pretty fabulous. NO IDEA if it's doing anything dramatic but it feels good and makes me feel pretty. ANYWAY, I dare you not to be humored by the latest post on Iris Apfel and to not fall in love with her. I would love to take her out to dinner, buy her a glass of wine and just listen to all her stories.

I have been obsessing over this quilt for so long that I feel like I might have already posted about it...I spied this hand printed quilt from West Elm on Amber Interior Design blog (obsessed with her bohemian glam aesthetic. I want her kitchen, her dining room, her living room...) and put it on my Christmas list - - and guess what Santa brought! Our bedroom is the skeeviest room in our beach rental and until lately I have just kind of accepted that, but I am now determined to make the best of a crappy room and at least dress it up a little bit. Little things like a pretty bed and a throw rug and hanging up some artwork are helping, I'm only sorry I took so long to get around to it. Next on the to do list is a DIY fabric covered headboard...just have to find the right fabric. Will show the before and after when it gets done - maybe. The room really is that depressing.

This installment by Tom Price in Washington D.C.'s Industry Gallery proves that you can make something beautiful from the ordinary. Specifically polypropylene pipes and nylon cable ties. “The blossoms are made from small chopped sections of pipe that are arranged on a large hot plate and melted together on one side so that they form into a sheet. They are then attached to the trees with the cable ties and suspended from the ceiling with ultra-fine stainless steel rope.” Made to replicate the cherry trees that were gifted to the city in 1912 by the Japanese government, they really do take your breath away.

Been doing some research on modern calligraphy for a friends tattoo and came across the blog "Ornamelle" by Masha in Bulgaria. I love her style of writing and the random exercises she does with paint and pastels and charcoal. Makes me want to get out my sketchbook and just play around with my pens. A good cable knit sweater makes me very very happy. Something to huddle up in when it's cold and to throw on over a bunch of layers or wear over a dress or paired up with some skinny cords and ankle boots. Since it doesn't get terribly cold here, this is all I need in the winter and I am good to go. That Madewell sweater with the striped sleeves is calling my name and may have to be a Christmas present to myself - it combines my obsession with all things striped AND a cozy pretty sweater. I have a pair of striped Toms with the rope soles that I am completely in love with - but it took me a long time to actually buy them because the shoes can be a little...odd looking. And now there are DESIGNER Toms available in an exclusive collection (this is just a sample of the shoes) at Neimans...that ikat number and the graffiti flat are really pretty cool (and you have to admit, the shoes are COMFY) but not sure they can get me to fork over that much money for them. I love the velvet flat but not sure how I feel about the silly skull graphic. Would you buy designer Toms?

Airport Fashion

As much as I hate dealing with people in airports and planes...I LOVE traveling. Even if the only place I ever go seems to be San Francisco (a 50 minute flight), I get so excited to be going SOMEWHERE. I take packing very seriously and enjoy making it all neat and putting together things that will work for different places and nights out. So even though I barely make it through a magazine on a flight, I like to get dressed as if I am going somewhere fabulous. But you have to be comfortable - otherwise what is the point. Sitting on a plane in a starchy skirt and heels is no kind of fun for me - especially with a tiny baby in tow. Gwyneth Paltrow has got the right idea - skinny jeans - check. Amazing boots - check. Beautiful cozy jacket - check. Giant scarf to cuddle up in - check. Sunglasses to hide sleepy eyes and jet lag - CHECK CHECK. And a lovely bag small enough to shove under the seat in front of you but big enough to hold all the necessities for flying - check.

There are lots of things that I obsess about that I only see online, these crazy amazing foldover clutches by Clare Vivier being one of those things. Yesterday my friend Tessa just CASUALLY pulled out her new black leather clutch and I about shoved her out of the way to see it up close. They really are beautifully made drop dead gorgeous little bags (and kick ass leather totes too...). Such a great size for all the essentials in just buttery soft leather...and so many color options - makes it hard to choose. Also makes me quite the jealous friend :)

These colorful needlepoint pillows from Jonathan Adler always make me smile and I would love to collect a whole mess of them to brighten up my white couch but their price points stop me from doing so. But I saw some vaaaaguely similar initial pillows for a lot less in the most random of places - Pottery Barn Teen. Even though I am looking for a lot of color for my couch, I think a couple black and white initial pillows would help lend some personality as well.

Saw a movie by myself for the first time on Sunday night - have you ever done that? I thought it would make me feel self-conscience, but it actually was really really relaxing and a great way to escape and have a moment to myself. Plus my husband would never go see a movie like Martha Marcy May Marlene with me...it's a pretty slow but intriguing and dark movie of a girl who escapes a cult. You see the experience through flashbacks and as the movie goes on the more you get drawn into her experience and it ends up pretty chilling. Elizabeth Olsen is amazing in it as you can lose yourself entirely in her character - I just feel bad that because she is the younger sister of such famous girls that you can't help but be thinking about that from time to time.

Saw two entirely different but touching videos today...a tribute to Amy Winehouse during the VMAs by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga performing live on Howard Stern. Bruno Mars does a beautiful job of the song Valerie, which I love, and the dancing and throwback style was perfect - especially the little dance moves at the end - hello! Makes you sad all over again that such insane talent is gone. And Lady Gaga just blows doors down singing Edge of Glory live...it's so nuts when you see singers get all distorted and emotional while singing, gives me goosebumps every time I see something like that.

Skinny Cords

Speaking of skinny cords...I dipped into the Gap the other day (for a place that I don't particularly think turns out great quality fashion anymore, I sure end up there a lot...maybe its all the sales) cause I walk past it to get to Madewell in the mall and ended up walking out with a perfect pair of skinny cords. Can't tell online if these are the exact ones but mine are a beautiful navy color, pretty dang tight, high enough cut that when you bend over the whole world doesn't know you intimately and they go with everything. I want to wear them everyday and am going back to buy in them in black - the almost look like velvet instead of corduroy. The bummer about the Gap is that usually things end up fitting oddly or stretching out or falling apart or going on sale right after you buy them. But so far, these are amazing pants and my new best friends.

I am COMPLETELY obsessed with this clothing line. If tomorrow morning I woke up and these collections were all that were in my closet I would be a VERY happy woman. This captures the way I love to dress in the winter...skinny skinny cords with soft layers, beautiful textured cardigans, a little bit of leopard and gorgeous blazers (that black and white tuxedo jacket - holy hot banana!). Not to mention great accessories of buckled beat up boots, giant scarves and fedoras. While we're at it, I'll take the perfectly messed up hair and creamy natural makeup too please. This is my new inspiration for the upcoming holidays and cold weather...so glad to have come across this here.

Now that it seems like half my hair has fallen out due to post-baby hormones, I am constantly searching for new ways to disguise that fact. Since I am already obsessed with messy bun hair...it seems like this would be the next logical step. Haven't really played with a scarf beyond just tossing one around my neck before so not sure how this will all go down, but I love these looks (collected from Tumblr). Nicole Richie circa 2008 seems to have perfected this style...I like the combo of the pinup girl and the bohemian hippie chick look, messed up hair with a smooth patterned scarf on top.Wish me luck.

Ankle boots are my true shoe obsession but really I love them all. So these photos of Rachel Zoe's office on The Coveteur made me want to scream out loud - there is a beautiful carpet of shoes in there. seriously. one beautiful pair of insane heels after another...but I have so many questions for the stylist. Like what sizes are they? What do you do with the ones that are out of season or no longer needed? Are they all on loan or are they your property? Do you try them all on when they come in? Do you ever steal a pair for your own personal collection? It would be like a girlfriend dream date come true to get to go in there with my two best girlfriends, a couple bottles of champagne and a camera to forever document the crazy fun of getting to play dress up in all those pairs and clothes. Can you imagine?

On a side note, I was a little disappointed in the photos of her office. She has such fantastical stuff and a killer space and yet...it was a little undone. A little blah and not put together. Harumph.

Apartment Envy

Lately I have had serious interiors envy...of neighbors, of friends, of TONS of places I see in magazines and online. Our home is cozy and friendly but kiiiiiiinnnnnda looks like we are a couple right out of college and have no money. And with our college days long behind us I am so over it. Then chuck in some serious baby stuff (the stroller is usually parked in our living room) and you just have kind of a mess. And no time to clean it. But I am trying, little by little to make it a place that is functional for the beach (VERY sand and surf board friendly) and stylish and affordable. So when I see places like this apartment featured in the latest Rue Mag I get obsessed with hunting down some new items. There is a very whimsical zen feel to this place that I love. The bookshelf balanced on giant smooth pebbles is so simple and amazing and I keep staring at the packed jewelry box anchoring all the magazines in what I think is actually their bathroom. Maybe its just tackling one thing at a time...this spread has inspired me to work on the living room...wish me luck.

Seeing Spots

I am in love. With a pink polka dot sweater from Madewell. And oddly enough pink and polka dots are two items you would be hard pressed to find in my closet. Light pink tends to make me feel like I am five but this sweater is girly without being too precious - and how can you NOT like those giant polka dots. Anything that makes me feel like smiling on a dreary depressing (I am a sun kinda girl) fall day works for me. And since I just HAPPEN to have to be at the mall after work to pick something up from Crate and Barrel (thank you mom...) I will have to duck in and try this pretty lady on.

I don't wear a lot of printed tshirts or tank tops...I think the one I rock the most says "Lakers are for Lovers" and that was only to make my husband smile...I just seem to gravitate towards stripes and solids. It's interesting to know how different woman approach getting dressed in the morning. I wake up most days and try to put together something that makes me feel pretty, is impressive enough for a surprise client meeting but also well suited to stressing out in front of a computer all day. For me, the perfect style is a blend between the 2005 bohemian queen Sienna Miller and the rock and roll laid back classiness of Rosie HW (I'll be the first to admit I am thoroughly obsessed with her style). Though unfortunately some mornings my style ends up more like the hassled first time mom who got spit up on at the last second and gave up entirely on trying to look cute...what do you think about in the morning? Do you go with the mood you woke up in? Plan the outfit around your new fall boots? Do you even think about it or do you just throw on whats near by and clean? While I make my bed every morning, it's inevitable that I have the piles of reject outfits piled on top of the freshly made bed and random shoes in front of the mirror and it never fails to amuse and confuse my husband.

A friend of mine works for Electric and he is always sporting the coolest sunglasses...recently I saw him at breakfast and he was wearing a pair that looked like a sturdier version of raybans (which i LOVE but they fall off my face!) that turned out to be from a limited edition collection. I tried them on and was obsessed with how SOLID they felt, how cool they looked and how they hugged my face so snuggly. Turns out this is the nicest friend EVER because he went back to work and discovered they were coming back out with them and snagged me a pair of the tortoise shell lovelies. There is something about the way they taper off at the sides that gives them just the right shade of pretty attitude. I am so in love with them it ALMOST makes up for the fact that my car pretty much broke down on the freeway this morning. My car may have almost been on fire but my shades sure were cool....

This Red Doll Winter 2011 collection by Tatyana Merenyuk is stunning. The pencil skirt combos are completely the opposite of how I dress but they are so so beautiful...something about the model and the mood make me think though, that the model could pull a whip out from under her skirt and smack the crap out of you. Slightly dangerous. But those dresses!!! Absolutely breathtaking. And can you imagine wearing that last concoction of never ending ruffles? Missoni Too Much for Target

Are you surprised? I am not...there was more buzz about this collaboration with Target than all the others combined. Missoni is such a coveted brand with such iconic patterns that people were lined up at Target - TARGET! - first thing in the morning and cleared out the shelves within hours. My neighbor was one of those people and said the line itself wasn't that bad but the people who went in first were grabbing things by the armful, literally just yanking it all off the shelves. She managed to get some pillows and throws online a little later (the items I was interested in but entirely way too late for by 8:45...) and I am excited to see what they actually look like in person when they arrive on her doorstep.

This is actually the best month of summer because the summer rentals are empty and the kids have all gone back to school so it's beautiful weather and it's PEACEFUL. While checking out the latest over at Honestly...WTF I noticed this photo of a girl in a jean jacket with what looks like a DIY studded heart on the backside. i LOVE this look and am excited to try it myself...I just happen to have two jean jackets that don't get much love these days and a box full of studs. It would look cool with some pyramid studs as well though I don't imagine it being that comfortable to sit against something like that. And speaking of the Honestly girls - their DIY bracelets are a MUST - I have a one that i am so obsessed with (although I am guilty of someone else making it for me - thank you Tessa!). I've long been obsessed with Alexa Chung's Iosselliani Skull Cameo, but it's way out of my price range...so I went looking for a suitable similar style. Pamela Love makes a sweet little skull out of howlite (bet you have have no idea what that is either - learn about it here) in both white and turquoise and I found a tiny gold baby skull I love and a cameo that closely resembles Alexa's. There is something so fun in a feminine piece of jewelry with the macabre twist of the skull. These pieces look amazing on their own but are also great pieces to layer with other necklaces.

Reading these 10 questions for Tom Ford by "A Bergdorf Goodman Conversation" (seen here) made me desperately want to meet the little boy that he was, wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase and wishing he were 50. And it also creates a lot of questions that I have for his mom and what it was like to raise a boy like that, someone you had to bring to the emergency room because they were allergic to the cucumbers they were using to get rid of under eye bags.

I have long been obsessed with Binkie Shapiro...for oh so many reasons. She plays the guitar and sings in a band with her boyfriend Fab (The Strokes!), puts out an air of quiet confidence, rocks liquid liner (i want so badly to be able to put it on correctly...) and has an enviable " i am in a cool band" wardrobe. OBSESSED with my new jeans from the Gap. They are the new 1969 legging jeans in the light cheetah print - something slightly reminiscent of what my 11 year old self would have also loved but a lovely grown-up verision. On paper they sound terrible but they go with everything and add just the right touch of unexpected or unique to an outfit. And they are COMFORTABLE. Just remember to buy them tight because Gap is notorious for jeans that end up stretching waaaaay too much and not fitting. I have two pairs that I went and got hemmed and everything and by mid-day they appear to sag down to my knees and make my ass look awfully sad and dumpy. So mad I didn't get the tip to buy tight. Good thing Gap is also known for putting everything on sale eventually - those two pairs cost me 35 bucks.

Easiest thing to toss on and look both feminine and polished with out actually dressing up is a patterned blouse. I prefer the 3/4 sleeved versions that are covered in birds or flowers or polka dots but anything will do. My perfect work outfit is made up of a pair of skinny jeans, a beat up pair of suede ankle boots, a loose blouse thrown over a little tank top, a few bangles, some chunky rings and a messy pony tail. Its comfy enough for sitting at a desk all day, dressy enough to face clients and pretty enough to go out after work (although that's RARE these days...).

The black rhinestone studs and tiny rose gold heart ring are my favorites but I am especially drooling over the long feather earrings by Claire Kinder Studio. While the feather in the hair trend may have run it's course (mine lasted a day and a half when I realized that every girl under 12 in Newport Beach was rocking the same style) these are funky and elegant and just plain awesome.
